Are You F*cking Kidding Me? (Facebook Song)

devil wears prada

Go away, you annoy me

I have the classic love/hate relationship with Facebook. But, now it’s leaning more towards to the hate side. Perhaps I’m more introverted than I thought. Or maybe I just don’t want to know every little teeny tiny detail of every minute of someone’s day. Does this make me a cranky old lady? Maybe it does. But being a cranky old lady, I don’t have to care. Boo yah!

I’m one of those lucky people who has to occasionally unfriend members of my own family when they take a dive of the deep end of the insanity pool.

A year or so ago, my daughter decided to go on a public Facebook rant about all my alleged short comings and abuses to her. Going all the way back to when I stuck her with a diaper pin by accident when she was a baby. (glue on diapers were not invented back then) She wouldn’t even know that if I hadn’t told her. It was an excellent verbal impression of Linda Blair in The Exorcist, including spewing green pea soup. She has my gift of descriptive language and so it was quite an impressive array of colorful cursing and accusations of things that I’m not quite sure are physically possible. Alcohol may have been involved.

She’s still unfriended because I refuse to refriend her until we talk about what happened and why she decided it would be a good idea to attack me publicly of Facebook. We’ve been at a stand off about it for over a year. *Sigh* I think something about that evil app causes people to lose their ever lovin minds.

  1. I do like Facebook, mostly I post my images, and connect with some old friends I’d never get around to writing to otherwise. And I like keeping up with some of my former colleagues… And then (cue drum roll…) there’s family… sigh… and you’ve hit the nail on the head. I had to unfriend my sister last month (on my birthday of all days) after she copied and posted a very sensitive conversation we had about some family issues that we disagreed on… and the thing we disagreed on had to do with privacy and respecting people’s personal feelings… I suspect she and your daughter would have a thing or two in common… sigh… what can you do?

I used to have really tight privacy settings on Facebook – but then I realised I shouldn’t be posting anything private at all, and I don’t. Whatever is on there is open for anyone to see. Except of course my ‘private messages’ and they are only as private as the other party treats them. And me.

I don’t blame the app though… it’s always how people use things. or misuse them.

    loved the song…

    1. Yes, how people use Facebook can be appalling. But I also don’t like the way Facebook culture encourages and even rewards invasion of privacy 🙁

  2. It seems to be the norm now to air dirty linen in public, especially on FB. I do have an account, but spend a lot of time blocking people who spend their entire lives insulting others and having public arguments; I just find it so trashy.

    1. YEA that part bothers me a lot.

    2. Agree with both of you. I remember talking to a younger friend who had a public spat on Facebook and I do not understand it at all.

  3. Reminds me of, “choose your friends wisely”. It also confuses me when people post they are going out of town/ vacation and wonder why their home was burglarized. Sorry that happened in your family dynamics!

    1. well you can choose your friends but you can’t pick your relatives 😛

  4. I’m not a huge FB fan either. FB epitomizes TMI. Hope your week is going well.

    1. It is going well 🙂 Hope yours is too Kathy.

  5. Great post!
I have little use for Facebook – but I’m in the minority!

    1. A growing minority.
